Don Yount

MR. YOUNT IS OPERATING PARTNER OF ACTIVATE VENTURE PARTNERS.
Mr. Yount has garnered over 30 years of executive operations and finance experience as well as a diverse set of experiences in corporate development and venture portfolio management. Mr. Yount began his career in public accounting, moving to banking and then to management roles in the venture capital and private equity-backed companies, both as an investee and an investor. His experience includes both high-growth and turn-around situations in software, hardware, networking and telecom and medical device industries.
Currently, Mr. Yount serves as operating partner for Activate Venture Partners. He also serves as CEO of venture-backed media intelligence company Critical Mention, Inc. based in New York City. Previously, Mr. Yount served as CFO and COO of Corente, Inc., a Cloud networking technology company acquired by Oracle Corp. Prior to Corente, Mr. Yount served as Executive Vice President and COO of TVI Corp. (NASD: TVIN), a publicly-traded supplier of decontamination and respiratory protection technologies and served on TVI’s Board. Before TVI, Mr. Yount was Operating Principal at Mid-Atlantic Venture Funds (“MAVF”), where he worked with portfolio companies on operating matters and managed internal finance and operations for the firm's partnerships. Prior to MAVF, Mr. Yount held executive positions in corporate strategy and finance, including time as CFO of a publicly traded company, at several high-tech firms in telecom, datacom, chip development, software development and media. He has led and closed venture equity and debt rounds and completed an IPO. He is on the Boards of Critical Mention, Activate portfolio company, Othot, Inc. and MAVF’s two remaining portfolio companies, Synovos, Inc. and Aviom, Inc.
Mr. Yount received his BS in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, where he won the Richard H. Jenrette Fellowship. He has served as Chair of the Early Stage East Venture Conference and as a past Board member of the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group, now called PACT. He was recognized as the “CFO of the Year” by the Northern Virginia Technology Council in 1998 and was recognized by Ben Franklin TechVentures as its Entrepreneurial Advocate for 2008.
